Notes on Summer-in-the-Winter Carnival

by Bohdan Trotsenko, Dniprohills TM club.

Toastmaster’s event is a rare thing. As such, it is always very wanted and very anticipated. I couldn’t help thinking about it before; afterwards I needed a calm event-less rest for the whole Sunday, as the vivid memories still played and kept brining pleasure.
It’s a rare case when I’m lucid, fully conscious yet unaware of time. That was the case.
If I were to believe that high concentration of positive people creates a kind of Reality Distortion Field, that would be the case too.
If I had a choice, I would go for not knowing about the Carnival rather than missing it. Summer could not taste better than in a small portion in the middle of the winter.
Ok, ok, I know I sound like evangelist. To put it in simple English, I hugely enjoyed it.
So, how it was:
18:30 Lily opened the Carnival and passed control to Lena Koronenko — the toastmaster of the event.
At first, we played a get-to-know-each-other game, in teams. There were 4 teams altogether: Hearts, Stars, Pinks and Blacks, distinguished by the sign on a paper summer hat (by the way, the nice hats were kindly prepared by Yuliya Barchukova). The goal of the game was to prepare & present a fictional summer story — and the entire team should take part in performance.
The stories were of different crazy kinds, I much enjoyed each one, but now I do not remember enough details to let you taste.
Then, a short brake, if only I can name it a brake, as chin-wagging and having fun didn’t stop for a second.
Then, a short performace, “If I were not upon the stage“, kindly prepared by Lily Nabochenko, Milla NezlinaKatrusya Zarubina, me (Bohdan Trotsenko), Yuliya Barchukova and Jenia Poluektova.
Then Svitlana Stavska sang “It must have been love” (“… but it’s over now“) accompanied by Yuriy Karabach playing guitar.
Then we sang “Маленький table topics evaluator” (“… с competent leadership manual‘ом”) — a fictional song by Yuriy, followed by Boney M.’s “Sunny“.
Then, Yustyna performed a beautiful belly dance.
Then we had a salsa master classed led by Katrusya Zarubina and Gabriel (wonderfully done, guys!)
And then — disco! In between we played a few games, prepared by Nataliia Baliuk and Iryna Taratun.
Around 22:00 Lena passed control back to Lily and thus the party was over :(

But! Apart from what I’ve seen and experienced, there were a huge amount of preparation done “behind the curtains”. Huge thanks to those who helped to make it happen.

P.S. I’ve found another blogpost by Yustina (Lviv’s Lember TM club) which you may enjoy too.

P.S.S. See the photos from the party.

Autumn Ball 2010

by Elena Semenchuk, Art Talkers Club

On a beautiful day of Indian summer, on November 7th , one of the brightest annual Toastmaster’s events, the Autumn Ball , took place at the premises of the House of Scientists. In the ballroom, decorated with multicolored leaves, about 100 people gathered – members of the Toastmaster’s community and their guests.

Area Governor, Lily Nabochenko, having opened the Ball, passed control to the Masters of Ceremonies – Marina Chernysheva and Dmitriy Odnorogov who started the program by warming up the audience. From three statements announced, only one was true and the audience was supposed to guess which one. All of them seamed highly unlikely, but the Toastmasters are famous for their resourcefulness so a majority of the questions were answered correctly!

Impression of trip to Odessa 2010

by Milla Nezlina
The trip to Odessa was a mix of rewarding work and joyful rest. The fact that such an amazing club as Best Odessa Club is a part of Toastmasters in Ukraine makes me proud.   It is a well-known fact that Toastmasters in Odessa conduct their meetings in Russian and it is also worth mentioning that is a pure pleasure to listen to their Russian          language: pure, poetic, almost state-of-the-art. I am thankful to Dmitry Voitko, the president of Odessa TMC, for inviting us and making a wonderful tour around the town,  we have surely caught the famous spirit of Odessa.  As the next step of our cooperation we are looking forward to seeing Odessa members at the Area events like Officer  Trainings in September, Autumn Ball and others.

Starting a New TM Club in Kirovograd

by Lily Nabochenko

With this letter I am glad to share with you some minutes of the first demonstration meeting in Kirovograd Institute of Human Development “Ukraine” which took place on March, 13th.

I would like to pay a special attention to people who put their soul and efforts to make this meeting happen – Lucy Povaliy, Timur Berezhnoy, Mila Nezlina, Yuliya Nosach, Vasyl Khokhla and Mikhail Meshkantsev. Thank you, Friends, for volunteering and doing such a great job!

We arrived to Kirovograd at 4:35 AM. Despite of this early hour a friendly representative of the Institute was already waiting for us at the railway station. It took us 15 minutes to get to the hotel where we had a chance to have some rest. At 9:15 AM a Pro-rector of the Institute – Galyna Viktorivna came to accompany us to the meeting with Rector – Olexander Mykolayovych who briefed us on their lifestyle, some unusual traditions and innovations of the Institute. After a walking tour around the building and a tasty breakfast we came in a big room with around 40 students who were waiting for us ready to discover more about Toastmasters.

Winter Masquerade in Chicago 30s!

by Masha Chebotareva, ЕВА VPЕ

1One day I asked myself a question.
What is the main purpose of the Toastmasters for me?
I quickly found the answer.
That was not studying English;
that was not leadership skills…
That was playing roles!

The life is so short and we can be only one person: either careful or reckless, either serious or emotional. In Toastmaster we can be anything we want. Each year we have an opportunity to become a different person during Winter Masquerade.

Toastmasters Autumn Ball 2009

by Mila Nezlina

One of the reasons why I love Toastmasters is that it brings together interesting, active and simply charming people. Autumn Ball is a perfect opportunity to meet Toastmasters from other clubs and I am sure that people who came to the House of Scientists in the evening of Saturday, October, 31 enjoyed the company of smart people and simply had lots of fun.

Despite the so-called swine flue epidemics, all places in the room were taken – we had a full house, in addition not a single guest has been seen in a mask, so with our own example we showed how courageous and brave the members of Toastmasters Ukraine are.

The Toastmaster of the meeting was Mykola Latansky, Past Area Governor and to tell you the truth I can hardly imagine a person who can fit this role better. His imagination, witty humor and of course excellent public speaking skills were cornerstones of Mykola’s success that evening and helped him to conduct captivating and smooth event.

The beginning of the meeting was simply marvelous – Timur Berezhnoy, VP Education of Toast Crackers Club, a professional singer and actor showed us the power and beauty of his voice by performing the Toast of  Orlovsky Duke from operetta The Bat and with it he plunged the audience in artistic mood. Another reason to say thank you to Toast Crackers Club is their wonderful premises – The house of Scientists which was kindly provided for our Ball and which created a special atmosphere of joy that evening.

At the Autumn Ball we tried to find out which club has the best sense of humor. As you have already guessed, we made it through Humorous Speech Contest where 3 representatives from 2 clubs told funny stories and amazed us with their ability to make people burst into laughter.

Toastmasters Officers Training 2009

by Lena Kryvoshapka

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_sihawtMVV0o/Sq6gV61ijkI/AAAAAAAAAmo/iORXsem3qX0/s640/P7312530.JPGNew officer’ teams of each Toastmaster club in Ukraine are successfully elected. Moreover, since July 1 they are really in action providing their clubs with the dedicated service. But are they aware of their direct responsibilities? Do they know how to succeed while performing their roles?
They do! And the officers’ training was an additional chance to deepen their knowledge. So, thanks to a great dedication of our charming Area Governor Yuliya Dmytryshyn – the training was organized in the best way it could be. Based on educational purposes, the training became even more useful for the participants — due to a good portion of socializing and a motivational course conducted by an outstanding coach
Mykola Latansky. Finally, Area meeting provided a ground for brainstorming to make the plans for the future and share the responsibilities on the preparation for the upcoming Autumn Ball.
